The second novel in the Aftermath trilogy, set shortly after the fall of the Empire in Return of the Jedi. The story follows former Rebel pilot Norra Wexley and her diverse team—her son Temmin, bounty hunter Jas Emari, ex-Imperial Sinjir Rath Velus, and their droid Mister Bones—as they work with the New Republic to hunt down Imperial remnants. Their mission intensifies when they are enlisted by Leia Organa to find her missing husband Han Solo, who disappeared while helping to liberate the Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk from Imperial slavery. Meanwhile, Imperial leaders Grand Admiral Rae Sloane and the shadowy advisor Gallius Rax plot to regroup and consolidate power, leading to political and military upheaval across the galaxy. The novel combines action, character-driven moments, and the growing tension of a galaxy still reeling from war while setting the stage for the rise of new threats.
